The challenge

Mendoza's public transport authority drove the conversion of stops into smart stations with platform screen doors that open and close in sync with the train, to improve safety and organize boarding. The awarded contractor, Ambiente Smart, needed a technical partner for a critical piece: the electronic system that detects the train and coordinates the platform doors with the train doors.

The solution

  • Wireless radio-frequency detection, with no proximity sensors: the system determines which side of the platform the train is on.
  • When the driver unlocks the train doors, our system commands the correct platform doors to open; and closes them when the train doors lock.
  • The sensorless approach reduces failure points and maintenance, and ensures only the correct-side doors are actuated.

The result

The system runs every day on Mendoza's light rail —public infrastructure carrying around 30,000 passengers a day— as part of a program that surpassed 20 operational smart stations. It is one of Mateware's strongest proof points: proprietary technology working daily in the province's public transport.
